Job Description Summary

Within Team Impact, this individual will work across a range of studies (approx 3-5), across a range of designs (human lab studies and clinical trials), working to screen, consent, interview and enter data directly for and from community volunteers (smokers). The position involves a large portion of participant interactions: scheduling, communications, assessments, and more. The individual will learn to successfully navigate large and complex databases and perform basic data queries.

Job Description

FLSA: Hourly

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM

Remote Work: n/a; on campus 100%

Job Duties:

  • 30% - Conduct structured interviews of study participants, ranging 15-30 minutes each, across a range of clinical trials. Applicant will conduct direct interviews with study participants, following semi-structured guides. This will include phone-based interviews and within-lab administration of questionnaires. Applicant will know how to score subjective ratings for common tobacco-related assessments (e.g., quit attempts, cessation, floating abstinence).
  • 25% - Manage lab sessions for tobacco product testing, and administration of lab-based tasks. Applicant will understand and deliver established assessments to measure evaluation of tobacco products, distribute tobacco products or medication.
  • 10% - Maintain up to date knowledge of research studies. Applicant will maintain proficient awareness of 2-5 ongoing research studies, including knowledge of basic study rationale, procedures, regulatory status, and data management systems.  Applicant will eventually manage these procedures and regulatory processes independently.
  • 10% - Assist with IRB documentation, both initial submissions and ongoing reviews. Applicant will know how to submit initial IRB application, annual yearly reviews, and any procedural amendments.  Applicant will communicate directly with IRB personnel to ensure timely and up-to-date compliance with all IRB rules and submission of documents.
  • 10% - Assist in data management, including set-up and maintenance of research databases. Applicant will learn how to navigate RedCAP for data entry. In time, applicant will learn rudimentary RedCAP database creation, and eventually, more sophisticated RedCap capacities (e.g., automated reports, plug-ins).
  • 10% - Collect of human biospecimens (breath and urine samples). For studies that require it, applicant will collect any of the following: breath samples (study participant blows into a small device), urine samples, saliva samples, all using appropriate safety procedures.   Applicant may be required to communicate directly with lab/assay for updating of devices (CO breathalyzer).
  • 5% - Perform other duties as assigned.

MUSC Minimum Training and Experience Requirements: A high school diploma and four years of relevant program experience. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required program experience.
