Job Description Summary

Provides technical advice and assistance related to complex programming activities. Performs research and analysis required for project proposal, software and systems modifications, and new projects.

Develops standards and procedures for programming staff. Develops and implements specialized programs to supplement and enhance systems software.

Develops and implements specialized programs to supplement and enhance systems software. Provides expertise for the design and development of IT systems. Analyzes business requirements and revises existing system logic difficulties and documentation. Recommends development of new code or reuse/enhancement of existing code. May participate in architecture design, performance monitoring, product evaluation.

Develops technical documentation (designs, specifications, processes) and communications. Prepares and implements data verification and testing methods, and reporting.

Provides expertise for the design and development of IT systems. Codes and documents scripts and reports. Designs and implements data strategy methods. Develops programs and systems documentation. May supervise or lead teams.

Formulates and implements monitoring systems procedures and work plans. Responsible for the preparation and modification of technical and capacity documentation. May develop business continuity practices for IT systems. May develop enterprise hardware and virtualization standards. May develop infrastructure to support database or overall data architecture.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities:
35% Leads the planning, design and implementation of individual clinical trials within the WebDCU system. Works with the entire clinical trial study team to setup the trial requirements using the standards defined by the DCU IS section. Provides ongoing support and maintenance throughout the life of the trial.

30% Participates in the development of a new WebDCU web application using .net. Implements the assigned requirements within the expected time frame specified. Analyzes and tests the new software prior to completion.


15% Performs independent research, design and implementation of an upgraded version of the WebDCU using .NET. Works with management to develop the requirements for the new system. Documents all implemented software using the standards defined by the DCU IS section.


10% Participates in the administration and monitoring of IT related activities in a backup and support role. Helps to maintain network reliability by performing software updates and monitoring server activity and availability.


10% Participates in the interview and selection of new IS personnel. Helps plan and conduct training for new employees on IS section standards. Is available to answer questions and provide guidance on assignments to new employees.

Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and four years work experience in the modification and maintenance of system programs, the design and development of system software, or the testing and debugging of system software. An associate's degree or a bachelor's degree in a related field may be substituted for the required work experience.
