Opportunities Across the Palmetto State

MUSC Health, the clinical enterprise of the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), sees more than one million patient encounters annually, and our specialized care teams consistently rank among the best in the country. Our mission is to preserve and optimize human life in South Carolina through education, research, and patient care.

Our integrated health care system includes a main campus located in Charleston, SC, nine regional medical centers positioned throughout South Carolina's Lowcountry, Pee Dee, and Midlands regions, more than 100 outreach locations, clinical affiliations with numerous health care partners, and a robust telehealth network.

MUSC Health and Affiliates Medical Centers Across South Carolina

According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, South Carolina ranked among the top five fastest-growing states in the U.S. from 2022 to 2023. Newcomers are attracted to the "Palmetto State" for its year-round mild climate, affordable cost of living, low taxes, thriving economy, and warm southern hospitality. The state offers diverse geography, including mountains, forests, lakes, and beaches, all within a few hours' drive.

Right Care. Right Place. Right Time.

MUSC Health’s approach across South Carolina is to enable “the right care, in the right place, at the right time” for patients, and we’re supporting this mission through investment and innovation in hospitals throughout the state. Each division within our Regional Health Network maintains close ties to our Charleston campus, which is home to University Medical Center, a nationally recognized leading health sciences university.

University Medical Center houses a Level I Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and Joint Commission Accredited Chest Pain Center and, when needed, serves a referral center for all divisions within our health system. As an enterprise, we work together to deliver exceptional and timely care in the communities where patients live and work.

Pee Dee Division

The hub of MUSC’s Pee Dee Division is Florence Medical Center, a leading regional acute care facility boasting 396 beds and over 400 providers dedicated to delivering comprehensive medical services to patients in northeastern South Carolina. The hospital features a Level III Trauma Center, 21-bed ER, a Chest Pain Center accredited by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care, and a Joint Commission certified Primary Stroke Center.

In addition to Florence Medical Center, our Pee Dee Division includes Marion Medical Center, a 124-bed acute care community hospital with a 12-bed ER, and Black River Medical Center, a brand new, 25-bed community hospital with a 16-bed ER that is located in Williamsburg County.

Catawba Division

Located just south of Charlotte, NC, in the northern part of South Carolina is MUSC’s Catawba Division. The Division is helmed by Lancaster Medical Center, a 225-bed facility with a 27-bed ER, an American College of Cardiology Accredited Chest Pain Center, and a Primary Stroke Center designation by the Joint Commission. Lancaster Medical Center’s Emergency Department is the 4th ED in the state to be recognized by the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control Medical Services for Children Program as a “Pediatric Ready” hospital.

The Catawba Division also includes Chester Medical Center, an 82-bed community hospital with a 13-bed ER that is located in Chester, SC, and a brand-new, 50-bed hospital currently in development for Indian Land, a rapidly growing suburb of Charlotte located just below the North Carolina border.

Midlands Division

MUSC’s Midlands Division includes three hospitals positioned to serve patients in and around Columbia, South Carolina’s bustling capital city. Columbia Medical Center Downtown features 332 beds, a 16-bed ER, and an award-winning Heart & Vascular Center.

Located conveniently in Columbia’s growing suburbs along Interstate 77, Columbia Medical Center Northeast is a 75-bed hospital with a 14-bed ER. Just to the east of Columbia, you’ll find Kershaw Medical Center, a 119-bed community hospital with a 15-bed ER, and an exemplary reputation for service since its founding in 1913.

MUSC Health - Orangeburg

First established as a private hospital in 1919, MUSC Health – Orangeburg has grown into a regional health care system that includes a 286-bed acute care hospital with a Level III Trauma Center serving patients in Orangeburg, Calhoun and Bamberg counties. In addition to the main hospital, patients receive emergency care at Bamberg-Barnwell Emergency Medical Center, an auxiliary emergent care facility located southwest of the city.
