The Division of Hematology & Oncology at MUSC builds upon a long history of excellence in hematology and hematological malignancies, as well as solid tumor oncology and bone marrow transplant. Division faculty are leaders in the fields of cancer care and blood disorders, and are routinely recognized by local and national organizations for their innovative research efforts, dedication to outstanding patient care, and leadership in the fight against cancer.
MUSC Hollings Cancer Center is the state's only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer center and one of only 72 NCI-designated centers in the U.S. Our goal is to ensure that all patients in South Carolina have access to high quality cancer care close to home, and we're proud to be building programs in collaboration with MUSC Health's regional hospital network and other partners to extend clinical, research, and education services throughout the state.
MUSC's Hematology & Oncology Fellowship Program began in 1986 and is the only Hematology/Oncology training program in the state of South Carolina. The program is fully integrated with the clinical and translational research programs at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, and provides each fellow with extensive clinical training in outpatient, inpatient, and consultative medical oncology and benign and malignant hematology, including autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplantation. Faculty joining the division will have the opportunity to supervise fellows, participate in teaching assignments, and mentor students at all levels.
Hollings Cancer Center is home to more than 130 scientists conducting research and collaborating to uncover better ways to fight cancer. The Hematology & Oncology Division's faculty members are equally committed to clinical and laboratory research, and our comprehensive treatment protocols include an ever-expanding clinical trials portfolio offering studies for most types of cancer and blood disorders. The center has an annual research funding portfolio of over $46 million and currently offers more than 200 clinical trials. We're committed to translational science that brings lifesaving discoveries from the lab to the patient.
Hollings Cancer Center offers advanced technology and leading-edge treatments that are only available at the nation’s best hospitals. We have an established outpatient transplant and CAR-T program with robust infrastructure, and we are REMS certified for infusion of all FDA available CD19 and BCMA CAR-T products. At Hollings Cancer Center, you'll find state-of-the-art clinical and research facilities, including a highly developed clinical trials office with a growing multi-center trials network and Phase I trials program, a robust biorepository and tissue analysis resource, a genomics core, and a cell evaluation and therapy facility.
The Division specializes in a wide range of malignant diseases and blood disorders, and serves as a statewide referral center for solid tumor oncology, malignant and benign hematology, and bone marrow transplant. The dynamic clinical team of the MUSC Division of Hematology & Oncology is committed to providing exceptional patient care in oncology, malignant and benign hematology, and bone marrow transplant. In Charleston, our clinical faculty see patients at Hollings Cancer Center, MUSC's Medical University Hospital, Ashley River Tower, and the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center. Our world class cancer care extends to patients located throughout South Carolina through the Hollings Cancer Network.
