The AI Data Engineer (Data Engineer III) reports to the Manager of Data Engineering in support of MUSC’s academic, research and healthcare missions. Under general supervision, AI Data Engineer will join a multidisciplinary team focused on advancing our AI strategy and developing innovative solutions. This role offers the opportunity to work with emerging technologies and contribute to impactful real-world applications in healthcare and research. To support AI development, the role encompasses significant data engineering responsibilities. The engineer will design and maintain scalable data pipelines, ensuring efficient data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, the engineer will support the integration of diverse data sources, maintain data quality, and contribute to the development of data infrastructure that underpins AI and analytics initiatives. As part of an engineering team, this individual will take a lead role in projects; participate in team and project meetings and provide ideas to improve efficiency, design, and effectiveness of solutions. This role requires strong communication skills and a strong commitment to and affinity for delivering the highest level of customer service. Requirements: Education/Work Experience/Skills
A bachelor’s degree and five years directly related experience; or a high school diploma and seven years directly related experience or a Masters’ degree and 3 years directly related experience required. Must possess strong interpersonal, project management, problem solving, and customer communication skills.
Candidate must be able to demonstrate expert skills in learning new technologies, coding and manipulating data for automated solutions, designing for customer-oriented solutions, and redesigning processes for improved outcomes. Must also be able to demonstrate organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to mentor junior staff.
