Job Description Summary

The Associate Director of Outreach leads the enterprise and community education and communication strategy for the MUSC AI Center for Health Innovation and Informatics. This role ensures broad awareness of MUSC’s AI advancements, builds a strong and compelling narrative around MUSC’s mission‑aligned AI successes, and positions MUSC as a national leader in applied healthcare AI. The Associate Director partners with the CAIO, Executive Director of the Center for AI, MUSC Communications, and senior leadership to craft unified messaging, coordinate AI educational events, manage public‑facing content, elevate MUSC’s AI visibility, and support executive‑level communication needs.

Job Description

Primary Areas of Responsibility (with % Allocation)

1. Enterprise AI Communications & Messaging Strategy – 40%

  • Develop and maintain a cohesive communication strategy highlighting MUSC AI achievements, milestones, and innovations.

  • Build branded messaging set by the CAIO and Executive Director to communicate emerging AI work across Clinical, Research, Operational, and Educational domains.

  • Lead coordination with MUSC Communications to produce multimedia content, social campaigns, academic outreach, and public engagement.

  • Manage messaging frameworks that elevate MUSC’s role as a national leader in applied healthcare AI.

2. Executive Communication & Reporting – 25%

  • Produce quarterly Executive/President Council briefs outlining accomplishments, ROI, team progress, and enterprise impact.

  • Support leadership with science writing, digital content, and communication collateral for presentations and external events.

  • Provide narrative development for high‑visibility communications across MUSC.

3. Internal Engagement & AI Awareness/Education Programs – 20%

  • Build communication pathways to keep internal teams, clinical partners, researchers, and IT leadership informed about AI progress and opportunities.

  • Support engagement activities that highlight success stories, project wins, and best practices.

  • Coordinate educational workshops, tutorials, programs, retreats, and events

  • Maintain a portfolio of project highlights, case studies, and technical summaries.

4. External Relations, Events & Thought Leadership – 15%

  • Promote MUSC at conferences, symposia, and community events.

  • Manage outward‑facing content that attracts collaborations, partnerships, and recognition for MUSC’s AI leadership.

  • Support fundraising or donor engagement efforts in partnership with the Development Office.

Key Annual Performance Objectives

  • Deliver high‑quality quarterly executive briefs with measurable ROI impacts.

  • Increase enterprise engagement and awareness of AI Center for AI work.

  • Produce consistent and high‑impact outreach content across channels.

  • Improve MUSC’s AI visibility in academic, clinical, and community settings.

Additional Job Description

Required Education: Bachelors Degree in Marketing or Communications

Required Experience: 5+ years in communications, academic affairs, healthcare marketing, strategic communications, or related roles, including leadership experience and managing complex outward‑facing programs.

Required Leadership Experience: Demonstrated experience leading communication strategy, stakeholder engagement, or organizational outreach at scale.

Required Domain Familiarity: Experience collaborating with technical teams, scientific communications, or research/healthcare environments strongly preferred.
