Job Description Summary

Plans, directs, and evaluates the overall nursing care and functions in a particular nursing unit or during an assigned shift. Coordinates the activities of the unit and directs, organizes, and assigns work to the nursing staff. Assesses, monitors, and educates the nursing staff on patient care. Institutes emergency procedures as necessary. Identifies expected outcomes for patients' individualized treatment plan.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Fosters a patient centered professional work environment through the implementation of the nursing process, staff development and collaborative team interactions for the enhancement of the quality of patient care.
  • Partners with the department leaders to achieve goals to improve quality of care.
  • Ensures proper standards are followed for nursing practice and provides interface between the support services and clinical services.
  • Facilitates care delivery system development and operation, including but not limited to staffing and professional delivery of services.
  • Leads daily operations of clinical employees, including staffing and throughput, while maintaining an efficient and professional work atmosphere.

Mental Requirements:

Must possess the ability to read and interpret business or safety manuals, clinical or technical procedures or regulations.

Ability to write reports, correspondence and/or manual.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, patients, families, other employees and medical staff.

Ability to perform more complex math functions (add, subtract, multiply and divide) to include calculating percentages, averages, volume, ratio and interpreting graphs - using numbers, money and units of measure.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. 

Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables and standardized

situations.

Age Groups:

This position primarily interacts with all ages and provides direct patient care. All staff members must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to meet the physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related needs of the persons in the assigned work area.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred. Associate degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing and a minimum of two years of work experience as a registered nurse in a designated area of practice required. Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state required. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required. Additional departmental certifications may be required such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Trauma Nursing Core Course.
