Job Description
The Executive Director of the Center for Artificial Intelligence (AI) at MUSC reports directly to the Chief AI Officer (CAIO) and plays a critical leadership role in advancing MUSC’s AI strategy across its academic, research, and healthcare missions. This position oversees the Center’s operations, including strategic planning, communications, outreach, and education. The Executive Director manages internal coordination such as meetings, symposia, and advisory board sessions, and leads the development of digital content, science writing, and social media engagement. They also supervise administrative support for the Center’s cores and programs, ensuring smooth execution of initiatives aligned with institutional priorities.
In collaboration with the CAIO and key stakeholders across MUSC, the Executive Director helps define and promote the Center’s vision, translating complex AI research and clinical innovations into accessible narratives for diverse audiences. They serve as a liaison between the Center and MUSC leadership, faculty, clinicians, donors, and the public, working closely with the Development and Communications offices to elevate the Center’s profile. The ideal candidate will bring strategic insight, operational excellence, and strong communication skills, along with a deep understanding of AI’s potential to transform healthcare and research.

Collaborate with the Chief AI Officer (CAIO) to define and promote the Center’s strategic vision.
Translate complex AI research and clinical innovations into accessible narratives for diverse audiences.
Align Center initiatives with MUSC’s academic, research, and healthcare missions.
30% Operations & Program Management
Oversee day-to-day operations of the Center, including planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
Supervise administrative support for the Center’s cores and programs.
Ensure smooth execution of initiatives aligned with institutional priorities.
Monitor and report on the Center’s progress toward strategic goals.
Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements.
20% Internal Coordination & Event Management
Organize and manage internal meetings, symposia, and advisory board sessions.
Coordinate cross-functional teams and stakeholders to support Center activities.
Leverage the Executive Assistant to the CAIO in event management
15% Communications & Outreach
Lead development of digital content, science writing, and social media engagement.
Oversee educational initiatives and outreach programs related to AI.
Serve as a liaison with the CAIO (or if the CAIO is unavailable) between the Center and MUSC leadership, faculty, clinicians, donors, and the public.
Work closely with Development and Communications offices to elevate the Center’s profile.
Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Support fundraising efforts by collaborating with the Development Office and engaging potential donors.
Promote awareness and understanding of AI’s role in healthcare and research across MUSC and the broader community.
