Job Description Summary

The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences is seeking a candidate to fill their Licensed Social Worker (LISW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) position within their Sleep, Mood, and Anxiety and Research and Treatment (SMART) Division. This individual will provide mental health treatment services, participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team of providers, provide research assistance in the development and conduct of clinical research.

Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: Monday - Friday; 8:30AM - 5:00PM (some evenings); schedule subject to change

Job Purpose: The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences is seeking a candidate to fill their Licensed Social Worker (LISW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) position within their Sleep, Mood, and Anxiety and Research and Treatment (SMART) Division. This individual will provide mental health treatment services, participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team of providers, provide research assistance in the development and conduct of clinical research.

The person will work closely with physicians, psychologists and other mental health providers, and registered sleep technologists as part of a clinical care team A major focus of the patient population will be individuals with sleep (insomnia, sleep panic, sleep paralysis, narcolepsy, idiopathic hypersomnia), mood (depression), anxiety (panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, somatic symptoms, OCD), and trauma and stressor-related and mood disorders. The client population often suffers from co-morbid medical, neuropsychiatric disorders or sensory processing disturbances (e.g. tinnitus, smell or taste disturbances, dizziness, vertigo, headaches, chemical-environmental or drug sensitivity).

The position includes both assessments and counseling via office based and remote work providing telehealth therapy. Experience with implementing cognitive behavioral therapy and treating sleep, mood, and anxiety disorders is recommended but not required as the successful candidate will likely require education and training in many of the areas involved in this position.

 
Required Minimum Training and Education  
Master’s degree in a social work or social welfare program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education or from a social work program or social welfare program offered by a regionally accredited institution and three years professional social work experience, one of which must have included supervisory or administrative experience. Hospital experience in the area of Psychiatry is preferred. 

 
Preferred experience

Master’s Degree in Social Work for LISW or Master’s Degree in Counseling for LPC from an accredited program.  Cognitive behavioral therapy training also preferred. 

 

Degree of Supervision
LISW or LPC will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician.

 

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations

Licensed to practice in South Carolina. Licensed in South Carolina. LISW-CP licensure/status or LPC is required.

 

Job Duties/Tasks

  • Conduct comprehensive intake assessments of adults seeking treatment for sleep, mood, and anxiety difficulties to facilitate treatment planning both in person and from home (i.e., telehealth services).

  • Provide evidence based cognitive behavioral therapy for sleep, mood, and anxiety disorders both in office as well as remotely from home (i.e., telehealth services).

  • Conduct administrative tasks, including timely documentation of services in patients’ electronic medical records.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meets with psychologists, psychiatrists, pulmonologists, basic scientists, and trainees. Participate in program activities such as journal clubs, case conferences, Department grand rounds, etc.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
