Job Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial plumbing systems, including water supply, drainage, sewer, and medical support piping.
  • Repair and replace faucets, sinks, toilets, valves, water heaters, pumps, and other plumbing fixtures.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on plumbing equipment and building systems according to established schedules.
  • Respond quickly to emergency maintenance calls, including water leaks, sewer backups, clogged drains, and equipment failures.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks including carpentry, painting, drywall repair, electrical troubleshooting, HVAC support, and other facility repairs as needed.
  • Maintain mechanical rooms, utility spaces, and equipment in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Assist with installation and modification of plumbing and facility systems during renovation or construction projects.
  • Monitor building systems and identify potential maintenance concerns before failures occur.
  • Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to document work orders, preventative maintenance, labor hours, and materials used.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, OSHA regulations, infection prevention standards, and applicable building codes.
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors as needed for specialized repairs.
  • Participate in rotating on-call schedules and respond to after-hours emergencies when required.
  • Support departmental goals by maintaining a positive, customer-focused attitude when interacting with staff, patients, and visitors.

Additional Job Description

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical or vocational training in plumbing, facilities maintenance, or a related trade preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of commercial or institutional maintenance experience required.
  • Previous experience in a hospital, healthcare facility, or similar critical environment preferred.
  • Strong commercial plumbing repair and troubleshooting experience required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of commercial plumbing systems and repair techniques.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and general building maintenance.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and work order systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team.
  • Basic computer skills for documenting maintenance activities.
