The Medical Technologist is Responsible for performing laboratory testing assigned to the department. Recognize unusual test results and resolve discrepancies. Ability to establish work priorities and handle several procedures simultaneously including troubleshooting instruments and other problems/issues. Maintain knowledge of all current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) required to work effectively. Develop, draft, revise SOPs, training documents, validation/verification plans, test cases, and validation/verification summaries. Maintain excellent communication with the Department and other Laboratory Services personnel.Entity

Job Description
Leads the operational and technical management of the laboratory section, ensuring rigorous quality control, method validation, and data integrity, including assessment of linearity and result correlation. Directs daily activities while ensuring full compliance with all regulatory requirements, policies, and procedural standards.
Education: Bachelor of Science degree In Medical Technology or relevant medical or scientific discipline required. Experience: At least five years of experience in a clinical laboratory. Certification: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by ASCP BOC or equivalent. Supervisory experience preferred.
Responsibilities
Ensures Laboratory consistently meets or exceeds all quality, safety, regulatory, certification, and accreditation standards applicable to clinical laboratory operations. (Weight-35%)
Goal Details: (Success Criteria)
Leads and supports care team members participation in IMPROVE projects.
Ensures care team members are knowledgeable of applicable standards and demonstrate consistent performance adhering to standards.
Ensure core competencies are uploaded and managed using MediaLab.
Ensures care team members perform critical task competencies as required to meet accrediting agencies’ guidelines.
Ensures EOC and safety rounds are conducted weekly and documented appropriately.
Complete CAP self-inspections/biannual inspection with minimal deficiencies and assists in the development of corrective actions for deficiencies noted during inspection.
Ensures all policies and procedures are uploaded and maintained in MediaLab are up to date with current practices.
Ensures all services are delivered in accordance with established standards of care and best practices in clinical laboratory science.
Oversee Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement for the Laboratory (Weight - 30%)

Review and investigate Shield forms in a timely manner.
Review all Quality Control and Maintenance records for completeness and any potential issues of concern.
Identify problems and trends and implement effective corrective action.
Participate in problem resolution.
Approach problem resolution as a process improvement opportunity.
Identify opportunities for improvement
Performs sample assessment, receiving, accessioning, processing, and testing to support high quality laboratory patient results, as well as supply/stock maintenance activities to support testing activities (Weight - 35%)
Prepares specimens for testing
Performs positive patient identification using two identifiers
Evaluates specimen acceptability
Performs specimen receipt in electronic laboratory computer system
Performs correct labeling practices
Performs order evaluation and assessment using electronic laboratory computer system
Performs routine laboratory testing using both automated and non-automated methods using established procedures
Recognizes normal and abnormal laboratory values
Recognizes computer data problems
Communicates technical testing information to medical and lay persons using Standards of Behaviors
Performs appropriate specimen processing based on sample type and test
Creates and reviews test/specimen pending worklists
Proficient in electronic laboratory computer system
Notifies/Documents critical test results using established policies
Ensures assigned benches are stocked accordingly
Ensure new lots/shipment reagents are quality controlled in accordance with manufacturers' procedures and established laboratory protocols
Ensures reagents are ordered at designated par levels
Supports test and instrument validation and quality control activities
Other duties as assigned
