Summary: As a Monitor Tech at MUSC, you will play a crucial role in monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms for patients in various healthcare settings. Your responsibilities will include observing cardiac monitors, recognizing abnormal rhythms, and promptly alerting healthcare professionals to any changes in patient status. With your vigilance and attention to detail, you will help ensure the safety and well-being of our patients.

Monitor Cardiac Rhythms: Watch cardiac monitors continuously to observe patients' heart rhythms and detect any irregularities or abnormalities.

Recognize Alarms: Quickly recognize and respond to monitor alarms indicating changes in heart rate, rhythm, or other cardiac parameters.

Notify Healthcare Team: Alert nurses, physicians, or other healthcare providers immediately when abnormal rhythms or significant changes in patient status are detected.

Document Observations: Record and document cardiac rhythms, alarm events, and interventions accurately and in a timely manner in the patient's medical records.

Maintain Equipment: Ensure proper functioning of cardiac monitoring equipment by performing regular checks, troubleshooting technical issues, and reporting malfunctions promptly.

Communicate Effectively: Communicate clearly and effectively with members of the healthcare team, providing concise and accurate information about patients' cardiac status.

Patient Advocacy: Advocate for patient safety and well-being by promptly addressing any concerns or issues related to cardiac monitoring and reporting them to the appropriate personnel.

Collaborate with Team: Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and facilitate timely interventions as needed.

Follow Protocols: Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and protocols related to cardiac monitoring, patient safety, and confidentiality.

Qualifications:

·         High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or certification in cardiac monitoring or healthcare-related field preferred.

·         Previous experience as a Monitor Tech or similar role in a healthcare setting is advantageous.

·         Familiarity with cardiac rhythms and ability to recognize common arrhythmias is highly desirable.

·         Strong attention to detail and ability to focus for extended periods while monitoring multiple patients simultaneously.

·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with patients and healthcare team members.

·         Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations and respond quickly to emergent situations.

·         Basic computer skills for data entry and documentation purposes.

Physical Requirements:

·         Ability to sit for extended periods while monitoring cardiac monitors and performing related tasks.

·         Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate monitor controls and navigate computer systems.

·         Visual acuity to accurately read and interpret cardiac rhythms displayed on monitors.

·         Emotional resilience and ability to cope with stress and uncertainty inherent in healthcare environments.
