Job Description Summary

Passed the on-line course modules, phlebotomy training and skills validation for basic and advanced skills with an 80% passing rate or higher. Successful completion of the EKG/telemetry course and/or competency demonstration. Demonstration of telemetry competency requires the achievement on the telemetry course final exam of an overall 90% and 100% on lethal rhythms and annual review.

Observe and examine the heart monitors of various patients and detecting and reporting on abnormalities and inconsistencies, such as irregular heartbeat or arrhythmia.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Requirements:  At least 1 year in a .6fte or greater Monitor Technician I position at MUSC or 1 year of Monitor Technician/Telemetry work experience in a health care facility and succeful completion of the EKG training/competency during the orientation period in order to remain in the Monitor Technician II position.   Credentials:  Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
