The Certified Medical Assistant reports to the Outpatient Clinic Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Certified Medical Assistant performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records or inputs information to patients' medical record. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.

Job Description

  • Provide compassionate and dedicated care to patients in a primary care setting.
  • Assist physicians and other healthcare professionals in delivering high-quality patient care.
  • Perform various clinical tasks, including taking vital signs, administering vaccinations/medications, and collecting samples.
  • Prepare exam rooms and equipment for patient visits.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare team members.
  • Follow all safety and infection control protocols.
  • Adhere to all HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Continuously strive for excellence in patient care and quality improvement.
  • Attend trainings and stay up-to-date on industry developments and best practices.
  • Display a professional and positive attitude towards patients and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team to provide comprehensive care for patients.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of healthcare regulations and compliance standards.
  • Act as an advocate for patients and provide emotional support when needed.
  • Assist in scheduling and coordinating patient appointments.
  • Handle administrative tasks, such as answering phone calls and managing patient records.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for improving processes and patient care.
  • Adhere to all ethical standards and codes of conduct in the healthcare profession.
  • Serve as a role model for other healthcare professionals in terms of professionalism and dedication to patient care.

Additional Job Description

CMA I Required Minimum Training and Education: High school diploma or equivalent.  Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred.

CMA Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:  Must be certified through American Medical Technologist (AMT), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Healthcareer Association (NHA), National Association of Healthcare Professionals (NAHP), Medical Career Assessments (MedCA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), or National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP). Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.

Physical Requirements: Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.  Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors.  Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs.   Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
