Job Description
Job Purpose: The Clinical Informatics Analyst is responsible for enhancing patient care by integrating clinical practices with information technology. Operating under limited supervision, this position collaborates with end users and the Information Solutions team to design and implement clinical information technologies that align with strategic musculoskeletal (MSK) initiatives and facilitate the delivery of safe and efficient patient care. The Analyst performs intermediate to complex technical and analytical work to support clinical information systems. This role requires close collaboration with Information Solutions (IS) and operational team members across all phases, including the planning, design, development, training, implementation, and project management of information systems.
Education and Work Experience
• At least a Bachelor’s degree in information technology or a bachelor’s degree in another allied health related field with 3 years of experience or an Associate’s degree with a minimum 6 years of experience, or a Master’s degree of 2 years’ experience with strong health care related analytical and organizational related skills. Clinical chart review and abstraction experience preferred. Computer/internet skills and familiarity with MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.) essential.
• Minimum of five years’ progressive clinical/healthcare experience within Epic Ambulatory preferred

Job Duties:
30% Identify opportunities for optimal utilization of the clinical information system workflow to enhance clinical processes.
Success Criteria:
Function as a liaison between clinical staff, quality, regulatory and other clinical disciplines and Information Services.
In collaboration with the Process Improvement team, evaluate the effectiveness and impact of clinical technologies on patient care and identify optimization opportunities post go-live and beyond.
Determine clinical functions that are suitable for computer applications to ensure that clinical information systems are consistent with professional standards of clinical practice.
Demonstrate a thorough understanding of clinical protocols, data collection and analysis, hardware, clinical documentation and management of applications.
Function as a resource in the development and revision of departmental policies and procedures.
Participate in discovery rounding to identify broke workflows and areas for growth around efficiencies and optimization
30% Champion the needs of clinicians throughout the planning, design, development, and implementation of the clinical information system.
Success Criteria:
Design efficient processes to achieve patient safety and quality goals while maximizing the functionality of the clinical technologies, in accordance with the strategic objectives of the Department of Orthopaedics & Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Medical University of South Carolina Medical Center.
Participate in various implementation phases including design, testing, training, and go-live support for large strategic initiatives
Assist with the development of training material and hands on training of providers and other clinicians.
Provide hospital wide consultative services regarding workflow processes, technological solutions and educational programs to adopt, support, promote utilization and the further development of the clinical information system.
Solicit staff input and provide direction related to the clinical information system.
Function as a liaison between departmental identified super users.
Perform clinical information system training sessions for various departments.
Promote and contribute to a positive, problem-solving environment.
Support and comply with National Patient Safety Goals, Regulatory guidelines and quality improvement initiatives.
Prepare staff for enhancements/upgrades to the information system hospital wide, as needed.
Collaborate with Senior Informatics leaders, other team members, and the clinical enterprise in the planning, design, development, training, implementation, and project management of Clinical Information Systems.
Serve as a liaison to the clinical enterprise and lead the Informatics team in the collection/design of data and metrics, the collaborative development of build and report requests, and the use of project management principles and workflow analysis.
20% Develop training materials, facilitate hands-on training sessions for end users, and provide ongoing support to ensure effective utilization of the EHR.
10% Design and implement patient-reported outcome measures to track surgical outcomes across various orthopedic divisions, including oncology, trauma, and sports.
5% Work efficiently with physicians and assist with ongoing quality and compliance initiatives and tasks as requested; act as a liaison between end-users, third parties, and Epic as needed
5% Other duties as assigned
