Job Description

The Nurse Navigator for the Spine Center reports to the director of the Spine Center.  Under limited supervision, the Nurse Navigator augments the preop process for elective spine surgery patients by attending preop clinic and providing spine surgery – specific education for patients to help them prepare for spine surgery with the goal of achieving improved outcomes.  The Nurse Navigator contributes to the plan of care and interfaces with other care team members to provide communication and continuity.  The Nurse Navigator implements programmatic changes and updates clinical practice based on current research and the patient’s diagnoses, spine-specific and comorbidities.  This role functions as a liaison between the Spine Center and the RT4 Pre-Op Assessment Clinic. This role also functions as a resource to the regional health network on pre-op clinic operations.

Additional Job Description

Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing and a minimum of three years related clinical nursing experience required. Master of Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in lieu of BSN. Excellent written and verbal communications skills as well as mentoring/coaching and organizational skills required. Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate effective patient and staff educational programs. Creative and resourceful in problem solving and exceptional critical thinking required. Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required
