Job Description Summary

• Cat Scan Technologists review patient histories and physician orders. They educate patients regarding procedures, equipment, and exams to ensure understanding and cooperation.
• When ordered, prepare and administer contrast media and/or medications within the scope of practice. Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate.
• Prepares equipment and supplies. Select appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.

• Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s). Analyze results and identify issues with the quality of imaging results. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure. Enter, transmit, and report scan results.
• May be required to provide coverage for other outreach sites located in Mt. Pleasant, North Charleston, and West Ashley.

Education and Work Experience

• Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
• CT Registered with ARRT.


Licensures, Registrations, Certifications

• Current registration in Radiology from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
• Current licensure from the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association.
• CT Registered
• BLS certification.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

PERFORM RADIOLOGIC EXAMINATIONS TIMELY, ACCURATELY, AND SAFELY FOR RADIOLOGIST INTERPRETATION

  • Timely- Ensure that the schedule does not fall behind; exam delays are communicated to all stakeholders.  Exams are routed to PACS for interpretation as soon as complete.
  • Accurately- per exam protocol using appropriate anatomical markers and positioning aids.  Images are free of artifacts and motion.
  • Safely- All patients are screened for patient and technologist identification, patient history, and safety protocols. The medical history was reviewed for exam indications and contraindications.
  • Review schedule/patient record 3-5 days before scheduled appointment. Evaluate for exam/facility appropriateness and contraindications for the exam.
  • Work with Radiologists, referring physicians, and clinics to address any issues before patients arrive for exams.

ASSURE THE RADIOLOGY SUITE AND ADJACENT CLINICAL AND COMMON AREAS ARE PREPARED TO RECEIVE PATIENTS/VISITORS.

  • Equipment- assure all needed equipment is available and in working order, perform quality control per ACR and manufacturer – report ASAP any equipment errors or downtime directly to service vendor and manager, as well as clinical staff. 
  • Suite/Clinical and common areas- assure all needed medical supplies are ordered and stowed, the exam room and patient areas are clean, and equipment is cleaned per manufacturer, OSHA, DHEC, and MUSC infection control guidelines.  Report any environment issues to the manager.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to evaluate and appropriately respond to verbal and non-verbal communication from patients’ diverse stages of development.
  • Completes procedures following approved procedure protocols with sufficient speed to promote departmental efficiency.
  • Completes required documentation for each procedure, both computer and handwritten.
  • Demonstrates technical competence in the operation of imaging equipment and the use of procedure-related supplies. Knowledge of related physics, anatomy, imaging techniques, and medical terminology.
  • Introduces self to patients, explains the procedure, assists the patient at the end of the procedure, and explains the next steps.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor in attitude, appearance, and communication.

  • ory, verify orders, and communicate effectively with co-workers and other clinic staff to provide excellent patient care.
  • Physical Requirements:

    Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking, and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex-safe environment, and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.

Additional Job Description

Education: Graduate from an accredited school of radiologic technology Work Experience: 0-2 years of radiologic experience. Required License Certification and Registration: Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in (CT) within 12 months of hire, and licensed by the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association (SCRQSA). Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required
