Job Description

The Project Manager I is responsible for planning, leading, and delivering projects that enhance and sustain the Workday ERP platform across the MUSC enterprise. This role supports projects within the Finance, Human Capital Management, Payroll, Security/Technology, and Spend domains. The Project Manager applies established project methodologies and processes to manage scope, resources, timelines, and budgets, while driving alignment across technical teams, business owners, and stakeholders throughout the enterprise.

Responsibilities:

Project Planning & Execution

  • Lead the analysis, initiation, planning, execution, and closeout of Workday and other IS projects assigned by the Workday Manager and other IS leaders

  • Develop project charters, work breakdown structures, statements of work, and scope baselines

  • Define project objectives, deliverables, timelines, and success metrics in collaboration with business owners

  • Manage project resources, schedules, budgets, and dependencies to ensure on-time and on-scope delivery

  • Monitor and control project changes, proactively identifying and mitigating risks and issues

  • Facilitate decision-making and issue resolution, escalating when appropriate

  • Ensure alignment with enterprise project management standards, tools, and methodologies

  • Stakeholder & Communication Management

  • Build strong relationships with internal teams, business partners, and vendors to ensure alignment and accountability

  • Manage stakeholder expectations through proactive communication and change management strategies

  • Collaborate across functional areas (Finance, HR, Payroll, IT Security, etc.) to ensure coordinated execution and resource alignment

  • Facilitate effective meetings and working sessions, clearly documenting and tracking decisions, action items, and deliverables

  • Communicate project status, risks, and outcomes through concise summaries, dashboards, and executive-level presentations

  • Promote collaboration, knowledge sharing, and transparency within and across project teams

Governance, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date project documentation, including charters, risk and issue logs, and change requests

  • Track, analyze, and report on project progress, trends, and performance metrics to leadership and governance bodies

  • Support Workday, IS, and other enterprise project governance processes through consistent adherence to reporting and documentation standards

  • Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement, standardization, and automation across project workflows

  • Conduct data and cost-benefit analyses to evaluate project impact and efficiency

  • Partner with other managers to integrate project outcomes and drive operational efficiencies across teams

  • Support the development and enhancement of Workday project management methodologies and templates in alignment with standards established by IS Portfolio Execution team

  • Contribute and support in project reporting out to varying levels of governance committees

Additional Job Description

Required Educations/Skills/Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Healthcare, Mathematics, or a related field; or at least two (2) years of project management experience in supporting, leading, or coordinating project activities

  • Workday project management and business analysis experience highly preferred

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SharePoint, and ServiceNow

  • Familiarity with diagramming and collaboration tools (e.g., Visio, Miro)

  • Experience using project management tools and techniques such as project planning, risk/issue management, governance, and change control

  • Demonstrated success managing projects through all phases of the lifecycle

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities

  • Proven ability to facilitate cross-functional collaboration and decision-making

  • Experience in budget management and forecasting preferred

  • Critical thinking and time management skills with a focus on execution and outcomes.
