Job Description

This is more than a department management position—it’s an opportunity to help build a new program, shape operations, develop a high-performing team, and establish a culture centered on clinical excellence, patient safety, and exceptional patient care.

As the Radiation Oncology Department Manager, you’ll provide strategic, operational, and clinical leadership while partnering with physicians, physics, dosimetry, nursing, and administrative leaders. You’ll also work closely with the Executive Director of Oncology and the radiation oncology team at Hollings Cancer Center, an NCI-designated cancer center, supporting the implementation and standardization of established care models, protocols, and quality standards.

What You’ll Lead

Operational Leadership

• Direct daily clinical, operational, and administrative activities.
• Plan, organize, and evaluate departmental operations in alignment with organizational goals.
• Optimize workflows, staffing models, scheduling, and patient care delivery.
• Serve as the primary operational leader for coordination and issue resolution.
• Lead strategic initiatives and performance improvement efforts.
• Support the implementation, early development, growth, and expansion of radiation oncology services.

Team & Human Resources Leadership

• Lead recruitment, onboarding, development, and retention of radiation oncology staff.
• Oversee staffing coverage, payroll, credentialing, performance evaluations, and corrective actions.
• Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, teamwork, and safety.
• Provide leadership and direction to departmental staff while supporting professional growth.

Clinical Quality & Patient Safety

• Ensure adherence to clinical standards, protocols, regulatory requirements, and organizational expectations.
• Oversee workflows across simulation and treatment.
• Partner with physics and dosimetry to support quality and safe patient care.
• Collaborate with Hollings Cancer Center to promote consistency with established care models, protocols, and quality standards.
• Lead quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.

Financial & Resource Management

• Manage the departmental budget and support capital planning.
• Forecast future growth, staffing, technology, and resource needs.
• Monitor supply utilization and promote responsible resource stewardship.
• Collaborate on capital equipment planning to support current and future service needs.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy program
• ARRT Certification
• SCRQSA License
• BLS Certification
• 5+ years of experience with leadership preferred
