Job Description
Respiratory Manager - University Hospital: Directs and manages the operation, patient and physician satisfaction, staff engagement, profitability, and clinical outcomes of assigned inpatient and outpatient departments. Responsible for facilitating the planning, organization, implementation, and control of the resources for optimal performance of the departments in coordination with the Director of Respiratory Therapy. Accountable for delivery of high-quality care and the administrative management of the department on a 24-hour basis.Â
Knowledge/Skills:Â
Demonstrates a high level of knowledge in cardiopulmonary physiology. Demonstrates a high level of understanding of the theory of operation of all respiratory care equipment. Maintains knowledge in current evidence based respiratory care practices. Maintains competency in the clinical application of therapeutic and diagnostic procedures outlined in the departmental scope of services. Effectively communicates verbally and over the telephone with co-workers, physicians, nurses, patient, patient family members and the public. Demonstrates understanding and clinical application of infection control techniques and equipment cleaning and disinfection. Must have strong competency in the clinical experience for the adult population. Demonstrates knowledge of and understanding of OSHA, DHEC, FDA and TJC standards and regulations. Demonstrates a high level of knowledge in basic management skills.Â
Other: Demonstrate ability to effectively use departmental computers for order entry, patient charges, time and attendance, productivity and financial management. Demonstrate ability to effectively use Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.Â
Contacts: May be in daily contact with patients, family members, fellow therapists, physicians, nurses, support staff, other allied health workers and outside vendors.Â
Work Demands/Environment:Â
Frequently standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping. May assist with lifting/moving patients. Intermittent lifting, moving or carrying, pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Constant reaching with hands/arms. Frequent talking or hearing. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and/or other conditions common to a healthcare environment. Intermittent exposure to risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, or irregular hours. May be required to take calls and/or work weekends/holidays based on the needs of the department. Ability to read and comprehend. Â

Minimum Qualifications:Â
Education: Graduate of an AMA approved respiratory care program with sufficient college credits to be registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. If the candidate does not have a bachelor’s degree in a related field, it must be completed within three (3) years of hire/transfer date.Â
Experience: 5 years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist and 2 years of management/supervisory experience.Â
Licensure/Certification: Registered (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). License by the Board of Medical Examiners of S.C. Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers and ACLS. Â
