Job Description

The System Director of Patient Education is a vital leadership position responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive patient education strategies and programs across our healthcare system. This role requires a dynamic leader with a strong clinical background, significant experience in healthcare operations, and expertise in leveraging technology to enhance patient health literacy and engagement. The System Director will ensure all patient education efforts align with clinical best practices, regulatory requirements, and our commitment to patient-centered care and improved health outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Master's degree in a relevant field such as Nursing, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Education, or a related clinical discipline.

  • Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive leadership and/or clinical experience within a complex healthcare environment.

  • Clinical Background: Must possess a current or previous professional clinical license/certification (e.g., RN, PA, PT, PharmD, etc.) demonstrating a foundational understanding of clinical practice and patient care.

Essential Skills and Competencies

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills, with the ability to translate complex medical information into clear, actionable language for diverse audiences (patients, staff, and executives).

  • Medical Record & Data Literacy: Excellent skills with the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), with a strong preference for experience with Epic. This includes deep familiarity with clinical documentation, patient portals (MyChart), and the ability to utilize analytics and informatics tools for measuring and improving patient education impact.

  • Patient Engagement Technology: Excellent skills and strategic understanding of next-generation patient engagement technology strategies, including but not limited to mobile health (mHealth) applications, remote patient monitoring, digital therapeutics, telehealth platforms, and AI-driven personalized education tools.

  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead organizational change, manage complex projects, and influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • Health Literacy: Demonstrated expertise in applying health literacy principles to material development and program design.

  • Regulatory and Compliance knowledge: Know and understand how to apply regulatory and compliance standards to all patient facing materials, including these with federal and state mandates

Additional Job Description

Education: Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Work Experience: 10 years progressive work experience and 5 years management experience
