Job Description

Job Summary/Description:

The Therapeutic Assistant reports to the Nurse Manager. Under limited supervision, the Therapeutic Assistant is responsible for providing patient care as directed by a multi-disciplinary treatment program.

Essential Functions:

  • Orienting new care team members

  • Conducting group and documenting programming

  • Obtaining and documenting vital signs

  • Recording meal percentages

  • Documenting applicable patient care in the electronic medical record

  • Other duties as directed by registered nurses and the Nurse Manager.

  • Assists with orienting new care team members to the unit

  • Provides assistance to new care team members as needed directing to unit leaders as appropriate

  • Assist with unit project improvement initiatives.

  • Attending 75% of unit staff meetings

Physical Requirements:

1.    Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.

2.    Proficiency in manual dexterity and fine motor skills for tasks such as taking patient vitals, administering injections, or conducting physical exams.

3.    Capacity to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed.

4.    Visual acuity and color perception to accurately read medical charts, documents, and monitors.

5.    Auditory ability to effectively communicate with patients and colleagues, as well as to perceive important sounds such as alarms or patient instructions.

6.    Stamina and resilience to handle the physical and emotional demands of providing patient care, including long shifts and potentially stressful situations.

7.    Mobility to navigate clinical environments, including moving between patient rooms, offices, and other areas of the facility.

8.    Compliance with infection control protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Training and Education:

  • High School Diploma with at least one year’s work experience in behavioral health or a related healthcare field OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or closely related field.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:

Certification in Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers. Safety Care Certification within the orientation period for employment and annually thereafter and biannually for BLS.
