Job Description

Position Summary

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) seeks a full-time Assistant Professor of Psychiatry to join Brain Stimulation Services. The faculty member will provide advanced neuromodulation treatments—including ECT, TMS, SAINT, VNS, and DBS programming—and rotate across neuromodulation and inpatient psychiatric services. Responsibilities include clinical care, teaching, and optional participation in research and program development.

Rank: Assistant Professor (Clinician-Educator Track)

Location: MUSC, Charleston, SC

FTE: Full-Time, 100%, 40 hours/week

FLSA: Salaried

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical Services (commonly 2-week rotating blocks):

- Provide clinical care in ECT, TMS (Coleman Clinic), SAINT, VNS, and DBS programming.

- Conduct neuromodulation evaluations and consultations as needed.

- Provide inpatient psychiatric care on a general psychiatry service.

 

Teaching & Supervision

- Teach and supervise residents, medical students, and APPs.

- Participate in academic activities, case conferences, or educational sessions.

 

Additional Responsibilities

- Participate in quality improvement and service development initiatives.

- Optional call duties with additional compensation once credentialed.

 

Minimum Requirements

- MD or DO degree.

- Board-eligible or board-certified in Psychiatry.

- Eligible for medical licensure in South Carolina.

- Demonstrated competency in ECT, TMS, SAINT, VNS, and DBS.

- Clinical experience in inpatient psychiatry.

 

Required Qualifications

- Prior experience in interventional psychiatry or neuromodulation-focused practice.

- Interest in academic teaching, clinical research, or program development.

- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

 

Work Location & Environment

- Brain stimulation procedures performed within MUSC Brain Stimulation Services downtown.

- TMS services provided at the Coleman Clinic, Mt. Pleasant.

- Inpatient coverage provided on MUSC Institute of Psychiatry units.
