Job Description

Summary:

Hollings Cancer Center is looking for a Grants Administrator II (Pre-Award) to provide comprehensive support for external grant submissions to Hollings Cancer Center (HCC) members, with a focus on routine and moderate-complexity proposals. This role ensures timely and accurate preparation and submission of grant applications while supporting proposal development processes under the direction of the Assistant Director of Research Development. The position emphasizes high-quality pre-award execution, compliance with sponsor and institutional requirements, and efficient coordination of proposal materials.

This position may be eligible for a hybrid remote schedule after an orientation period.


Responsibilities:

35% Pre-Award Grants Administration

  • Provide full pre-award support for MUSC foundation, professional society, and smaller federal grant proposals (e.g., pilot mechanisms, CCSG supplements).
  • Assist investigators with budget development, sponsor guideline interpretation, and application preparation.
  • Prepare and submit proposals via both internal and external systems. Currently this includes Cayuse, ASSIST, and ProposalCentral.
  • Develop submission timelines and checklists to ensure compliance with sponsor deadlines.
  • Coordinate standard proposal components (biosketches, other support, letters of support, etc.).
  • Liaise with the MUSC Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) and institutional offices to facilitate timely submission.

35% Proposal Preparation & Document Coordination

  • Compile, format, and organize proposal documents to ensure completeness and adherence to sponsor requirements.
  • Maintain templates and standardized materials for recurring grant components.
  • Assist with preparation of administrative sections of applications (non-scientific components).
  • Perform quality checks to ensure accuracy, formatting consistency, and completeness prior to submission.
  • Track progress of assigned proposals and follow up with investigators and collaborators as needed.

25% Support for Large-Scale Grant Submissions

  • Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Research Development, provide administrative and coordination support for complex, multi-investigator proposals.
  • Assist the Grants Team with document collection, formatting, and organization of large-scale proposal components.
  • Track deadlines and deliverables for assigned portions of large submissions.
  • Support coordination of materials across multiple contributors.

5% Other Program Support

  • Assist with Cancer Center projects and perform additional duties in support of HCC goals and initiatives.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Requirements: A bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration or the social sciences and four years experience in contracts and grant administration activities.
