Job Description Summary

The candidate will work with Drs. Squeglia and Gray as a Program Assistant on the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study, a large-scale project to study child and adolescent health, behavior, and brain functioning in a part-time role. The candidate will play an active role in study completion, including coordinating and performing study visits when needed, assisting with annual site visit planning, data collection and management, reports as requested, and ensuring participant retention. The candidate will also aid in the overall team and study organization while providing enhanced support to the research team to promote success.

Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays.

Job Description

FLSA: Hourly

Work Scheduled: Monday - Friday, Hours will vary between 9:00AM - 5:00PM with weekends and evening shifts.

Job Duties:

30% - Responsible for site data management and annual reporting to Coordinating Center and MUSC. Performs data entry and maintains study files to ensure compliance. Investigates data concerns when they arise. Assists with the coordination of annual site monitor visits from Coordinating Center.

30% - Contributes to communication with research participants:

  • Utilizes multiple calendars for scheduling;
  • Answers questions that come through ABCD phone and email systems;
  • Reminds participants of their upcoming appointments.
  • Organizes ABCD substudy participation. 

20% -- Review workload and operating procedures, manage scheduling of staff members while assisting with participant scheduling, determine priorities, and allocate resources to meet team workload requirements.

5% - Participate in staff onboarding including training in research activities and lab standards such as assessments, biospecimen collection procedures, and data entry and management.

5% - When needed, administers clinical assessments, neuropsychological testing, mobile activity monitoring, and careful assessments of environment, psychopathological symptoms, substance use, and social functioning to children and parents. Visits include the collection and process of biospecimens (e.g., blood, urine, saliva, hair, teeth) to assess hormone levels, neurotoxin exposure, and genetics. Assists team clinicians with referrals for resources available in community and social services.

5% - Assists with functional and structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) sessions and data transfer. Supports team by problem solving issues that arise and developing alternative approaches.

5% - Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Education & Experience: A Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Psychological & Brain Sciences, Neuroscience, or a related field is preferred. Prior research experience in a lab, knowledge of REDCap data entry, management, reporting tools, interviewing research participants, conducting structured clinical interviews, neuropsychological tests and collecting biospecimens – including drawing blood and MRI assessments not required but valued. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Experience working with adolescents and emerging young adults (ages 9-25). Excellent verbal communication and problem-solving skills. Attention to detail and the ability to work independently and assure accuracy. Must be able to work evenings and weekends, as these are the times youth are typically available to participate in the study.

Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and three years of relevant program experience. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required program experience.
