The MUSC Wellness Center is seeking a Certified Pilates Mat Instructor to lead members and guests through high quality Pilates sessions for adults ages 18 and older. Our Pilates Coaches are warm, knowledgeable, and encouraging professionals who create safe, effective, and engaging classes. Job Description
(30%) Lead Group Pilates Mat Classes
Deliver well‑structured and motivating Pilates mat classes according to the assigned schedule, ensuring sessions are inclusive, engaging, and aligned with Wellness Center standards.
• (30%) Develop and Teach Safe, Effective Class Formats
Create or deliver class formats that are appropriate for a wide range of participants, including beginners and experienced practitioners. Class members may vary in age (18–80), physical ability, and fitness level.
• (20%) Assess Participant Needs
Observe participants and offer modifications, progressions, and alternative movements as needed. Ensure individuals are positioned appropriately within the class based on ability and safety considerations.
• (10%) Communicate with Supervisor
Meet with the supervisor as needed to provide updates, discuss recommendations, and address any concerns or program needs.
• (10%) Teach Off‑Site Classes as Needed
Occasionally lead Pilates group exercise classes at off‑site locations in the surrounding Charleston area.
Requirements
Prior experience in Group Fitness, Personal Training, or Corporate Health & Wellness, with the ability to teach Pilates-based movement formats.
Current, nationally recognized Pilates Mat Certification.
Strong professional communication skills, including appropriate vocabulary and grammar when interacting with members, guests, and colleagues.
Knowledge of the fitness and wellness industry with the ability to build rapport, engage participants, and foster a welcoming class environment.
A genuine passion for helping clients achieve their health and fitness goals, increasing class participation, and offering movement variations to support all levels.
