Job Summary

Review and abstract the EMR of all neonatal ICU admissions to the Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital specific clinical data from patient medical records of neonatal admission course. Provides technical and professional services in a program area of the Neonatology Quality data area.

Job Duties:

35% - Reviews and abstracts the EMR of all neonatal ICU admissions to the Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital specific clinical data from patient medical records of neonatal admission course.

25% - Enters abstracted data into maintained perinatal electronic databases including but not limited to, Perinatal information System (PINS), Vermont Oxford Network data reporting system (VON), and MUHA perinatal system data.

15% - Partners with Neonatal Medical Director and Neonatal Regional Perinatal Coordinator for data review and regulatory reporting to the South Carolina Department of Health and state quality initiatives, databases, and registries as required under state regulation SC 61-16.1306.

10% - Conducts quality assurance on abstracted data and oversees adjustments and corrections to data for reporting.

10% - Participates in the MUSC SJCH Perinatal Morbidity and Mortality Review. Attends meetings with the Neonatal ICU medical director and staff for neonatal population focused quality and safety reviews.

5% - Additional assigned task

Preferred Minimum Experience

A bachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant neonatal intensive care clinical case management experience

Additional Preferred Experience and Additional Skills

  • A master degree or higher with at least 5 years of clinical neonatal intensive care case management experience in neonatal healthcare, knowledge and experience with Epic EMR, Microsoft Excel, and RedCap database.
  • Understanding of the South Carolina Perinatal Regionalization System
  • Interface and collaborate with the Perinatal Information Data System
  • Participate in multidisciplinary project groups in neonatal quality and reporting
  • Participate in SC Regionalizational Perinatal Center Staff meetings: biweekly

Pearl Tourville Women's Pavilion

Housed within MUSC SJCH, the Pearl Tourville Women’s Pavilion (PTWP) seamlessly integrates children’s care and obstetrical services, thereby enhancing safety and improving outcomes in low and high-risk pregnancies. The Advanced Fetal Care Center ensures that families expecting babies with complex congenital birth defects or medical problems receive care from board-certified maternal-fetal medicine providers collaborating with a large multidisciplinary care team of pediatric specialists. The PTWP care is one of only a handful of women’s facilities in the country to offer couplet-care rooms, where newborns and mothers can recover together in an intensive-care setting.
