Job Description Summary

Our research projects investigate cellular and molecular mechanisms of sensory system degeneration. We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual with a bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in Public Health, Molecular biology, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Immunology, genetics, or other areas of Biomedicine. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills and can work independently. Experience working with small animals (e.g., mice or rats) is required. Knowledge of and the ability to perform the following experiments is also preferred: in vivo animal behavior tests, isolation of protein, DNA and RNA, in situ hybridization, RNA-seq, cell culture, tissue sectioning, quantitative immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy.

Research Specialist I - Part Time

Pathology and Laboratory Medicine

Research Specialist (I): Our research projects investigate cellular and molecular mechanisms of sensory system degeneration. We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual with a bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in Public Health, Molecular biology, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Immunology, genetics, or other areas of Biomedicine. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills and can work independently. Experience working with small animals (e.g., mice or rats) is required. Knowledge of and the ability to perform the following experiments is also preferred: in vivo animal behavior tests, isolation of protein, DNA and RNA, in situ hybridization, RNA-seq, cell culture, tissue sectioning, quantitative immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy.

Proposed Job Duties:

1) To perform the hearing function and other behavior tests on animal models of hearing loss and other neurodegenerative disorders.

2) To collect, preserve, and process cochlear tissues from mouse models and from postmortem human temporal bones; To maintain mouse colony, perform PCR genotyping and collect cochlear tissues and other tissues if needed. 1 20%

3) To perform molecular and cellular biology experiments including protein and RNA isolation, cell isolation from developmental and adult cochlear tissues, cell preparation for RNA seq assays and other genomics assays, in situ hybridization and immunohistochemical and confocal imaging analysis

30% 4) To maintain accurate records of experiments, analyze data for manuscript writing; To assist the Principal Investigator in keeping experimental work in the lab flowing efficiently, and to maintain a well-organized and accident-free working environment.

Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and two years work experience in a clinical or research setting; a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or other natural, life or health care science may be substituted for the two years of required experience.
