Job Description
Job Summary: The Data Coordination Unit in the Department of Public Health Sciences is seeking a Systems Programmer/Developer III who will play a pivotal role in DCU server support, database development, and IT Desktop Support. This includes the management of servers, network performance, data security, external data transfers, technical documentation, IT support, and database development and maintenance. This role requires strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of IS/IT infrastructure, and the ability to collaborate with various teams to enhance information systems and processes.
Server Support:
Configure, install, and maintain DCU database servers, web servers and file servers, including hardware, software and peripherals. Manage the backup and restoration of DCU database servers, web servers and file servers. 15%
Install and configure network hardware and software. Manage information system and network user accounts, access rights, and security settings. Ensure network reliability by performing software updates and monitoring server activity, security, and availability. 15%
Database Development:
Participate in the design, development, implementation, optimization, and on-going support of project databases within DCU’s Clinical Trial Management System. Work with the entire clinical trial study team to set up the trial database using the standards defined by the DCU IS leaders. Provide ongoing support and maintenance throughout the life of the trial. Process database changes. 20%
Developing computerized applications for data exchange between DCU and external collaboration partners. Validating web-based information management applications and managing application development change control and production release. 10%
Desktop Support:
Troubleshoot and resolve IT-related issues for employees. 30%
Develop and maintain technical documentation of DCU systems and networks. Plan and implement IT related policies and procedures. Review and analyze System, Application and Security Log Files. 10%
MUSC Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:
A high school diploma and four years' work experience in the modification and maintenance of system programs, the design and development of system software, or the testing and debugging of system software. An associate degree or a bachelor's degree in a related field may be substituted for the required work experience.
Required qualifications:
1. Familiar with MS Windows Operating System (desktop and server), Virtualization platforms and MS SQL Server database systems.
2. Scripting experience, preferably with MS PowerShell
3. SQL Programming experience
4. Understanding of relational database structures
5. Strong interpersonal communication and documentation skills.
Preferred additional experience:
1. .Net with C# programming
2. Application development experience
