Job Description Summary

Under general supervision of shop foreman, performs skilled craftsman level trades related duties in varying types of heating / air conditioning work. Makes routine repairs, answers trouble calls, analyzes problems and execute action necessary to correct mechanical problems; participate in outages, provides indirect supervision to other mechanics and helpers on as needed basis when more than one employee is needed to complete a task. Ensures there are no unauthorized gas leaks. Performs related and non-related duties as required.

Job Description

05% - Maintain work area and jobsites in a clean and orderly manner and performs miscellaneous and related duties as required.

10%- Coordinate repairs and inspections with Energy Management Operator for proper shutdown and start-up of air conditioning systems throughout campus. Assists in repairing various items made of sheet metal, laundry carts, benches, tables, etc. with assistance using metalsmith trade hand tools, such as power tools, hand break, power shear, and roller machine

10%-Supervises and instructs mechanics of lower grade. Inform supervisor of any problems that may affect proper operation of equipment.  
 

15%-Reset air conditioning and refrigeration system and check for proper operation after power failure. Adjusts and calibrates pneumatic and electronic controls.  

30%- Assist in the fabrication and installation of sheet metal, duct work and forming various shapes of sheet metal. Make installation tests, and repairs in accordance with EPA and other applicable regulatory agency guidelines.  

30%- Installs all sizes and type of HVAC systems. When working on equipment, ensures there are no unauthorized gas releases into the atmosphere.

Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and three years trade experience that is directly related to the area of employment. Some positions require a commercial driver's license. Some positions require EPA-approved freon recovery certification. (Continuous) Ability to qualify physically for respirator use. (Continuous) Additional New Requirements: Ability to obtain and maintain a valid drivers license. Ability to obtain and maintain EPA Approved Freon recovery certification.
