Job Description Summary

This journeyman-level Painter primarily performs skilled maintenance painting across MUSC Health-owned and leased facilities, including surface preparation, repair, priming, painting, finishing, and touch-up work. The role also provides minor carpentry and general maintenance support within assigned service zones. The position responds to work orders, completes preventive and corrective maintenance, uses hand and power tools safely, and works independently to support facility appearance, safety, and operations with minimal disruption. Work is performed in accordance with established safety and Infection Prevention guidelines to support clean, compliant, and patient centered environments. This role is designated as Essential Personnel and may be required to report or remain available during emergencies, severe weather, utility disruptions, public health emergencies, and other operational events.

Job Description

This journeyman-level Painter is responsible for performing skilled maintenance painting as the primary focus of the role, while also providing minor carpentry and general maintenance support across MUSC Health facilities, including leased and owned properties. The incumbent prepares, repairs, primes, paints, and finishes interior and exterior surfaces to maintain clean, safe, functional, and professional environments. In addition to painting duties, the position may assist with minor carpentry repairs, basic building maintenance, and related repair tasks within assigned service zones. This position performs both preventive and corrective maintenance activities during peak and non-peak operational hours, responds to work orders, uses a variety of hand and power tools, and completes assigned tasks with minimal disruption to hospital, academic, administrative, and support operations. The position works within established safety and Infection Prevention guidelines to help maintain compliant, clean, and patient centered environments. The position is expected to work independently, prioritize painting and maintenance-related work orders effectively, and maintain high standards of workmanship, safety, and customer service while supporting the overall operation of hospital facilities. This position is designated as Essential Personnel. Employees in this role are expected to report to work and/or remain available during emergency operations, severe weather events, natural disasters, utility disruptions, public health emergencies, and other situations that may affect normal business operations.
