Job Description

Job Summary         

Provides operational and clinical leadership for the Cardiology service line, including Cardiology, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, and Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation. Responsible for the day-to-day management, long-term planning, quality outcomes, financial performance, and regulatory compliance of assigned areas. Collaborates closely with physicians, service line leadership, nursing, and ancillary departments to ensure safe, high-quality, patient-centered cardiovascular care. Serves as the designated Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (CCL) Coordinator, ensuring compliance with American College of Cardiology (ACC) regulatory and accreditation standards, including accreditation readiness activities and maintenance of accurate Cath Lab website content.

Minimum Qualifications  

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, Cardiovascular Technology, Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related healthcare field required
  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Cardiovascular Technologist (RCIS, RCES, or equivalent) required
  • Minimum five (5) years of clinical experience in a cardiovascular specialty (e.g., Cardiac Cath Lab, Interventional Cardiology, Electrophysiology, Cardiology, or related area)
  • Minimum two (2) years of leadership or supervisory experience required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification required (or ability to obtain within designated timeframe)
  • Active licensure or credentialing in the State of South Carolina, as applicable to professional role

Work Environment

Works in both office and clinical environments. Regular exposure to patient care settings with potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens and emergency or crisis situations. May require irregular hours and on-call responsibilities based on departmental needs.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly oversees Cardiology, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, and Cardiac Rehabilitation staff
  • Provides leadership, coaching, evaluation, and professional development for licensed and unlicensed personnel
  • May indirectly supervise clinical unit leaders and ancillary staff

Financial Responsibilities:         

Manages staff schedules and provides input on the annual budget preparation.

Essential Functions:

  • Leads planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of cardiovascular services
  • Develops and aligns departmental goals with organizational and service line strategic priorities
  • Oversees staffing, ensures appropriate skill mix, and compliance with matrix and productivity standards
  • Participates in recruitment, onboarding, coaching, performance evaluation, and corrective action processes
  • Collaborates with physicians, directors, and executive leadership on scope of services and program development
  • Serves as subject matter expert for cardiovascular quality metrics and performance improvement initiatives
  • Collaborates with IT and third‑party vendors to support clinical quality reporting and data analytics
  • Monitors compliance with documentation, charging, internal controls, and regulatory requirements
  • Leads or assists with patient experience initiatives, service recovery, and review of HCAHPS and quality data
  • Ensures policies, procedures, and evidence‑based practices are current and consistently followed
  • Responds to safety events, investigations, follow‑up education, and regulatory readiness activities
  • Serves as CCL Coordinator, maintaining ACC accreditation readiness and regulatory compliance
  • Ensures timely updates to the Cath Lab website and supporting documentation
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Able to read, analyze, and interpret complex clinical or business journals, financial reports or legal document and respond to sensitive inquiries or complaints from patients, regulatory agencies, staff and members of the business community; write persuasive correspondence, effectively present information to top management, able to perform complex math functions to include calculating percentages, averages, volume, ratio and interpreting graphs; define problems, collect data, establish facts, valid conclusions; deal with concrete and abstract concepts and interpret verbal, nonverbal and written instructions.

Population Served

This position primarily interacts with adults and aging adults and provides direct patient care. All staff members must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to meet the physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related needs of the persons in the assigned work area.

3. Capacity to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed.
4. Visual acuity and color perception to accurately read medical charts, documents, and monitors.
5. Auditory ability to effectively communicate with patients and colleagues, as well as to perceive important sounds such as alarms or patient instructions.
6. Stamina and resilience to handle the physical and emotional demands of providing patient care, including long shifts and potentially stressful situations.
7. Mobility to navigate clinical environments, including moving between patient rooms, offices, and other areas of the facility.
8. Compliance with infection control protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
