Job Description

The Nurse-Ethicist assists other members of the Ethics Consultation Service with ethics consultations as needed. They will also be expected to regularly round throughout the hospital to discuss cases and moral distress with nurses and other care team members. Depending on the situation, the nurse-ethicist may work with the Director of Ethics or other Ethics Consultants to organize moral distress workshops for units that request it. As a member of the Ethics Committee, the nurse-ethicist is expected to attend the monthly ethics committee meetings. In addition to these duties, there may be opportunities to help develop and teach a Nursing Ethics Certificate Program.

Requirements

BSN required, preference will be given to candidates with a Master’s Degree or higher. The candidate should be a highly experienced nurse, with many years (8 to 10) of experience, and who has experience working in multiple units. The candidate should have a strong interest in ethics and good interpersonal skills

Additional Job Description

Graduated from an accredited school of nursing. Current licensure by the South Carolina State Board of Nursing. BSN preferred. Minimum of three years of medical practice/clinical management experience. Other experience may be substituted in lieu of practice/clinical management. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required
