Senior Director of Development Shawn Children’s Hospital

Position Purpose:
The Senior Director of Development (SDOD) will be responsible for managing and leading the Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital (SJCH) fundraising program for MUSC Children’s Health. Responsible for planning, managing, and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy that meets the goals of the institution. This role is a part of MUSC Foundation – Institutional Advancement and reports to the MUSC Associate Dean for Medical Development. The SDOD ensures and develops a comprehensive program which incorporates best practices across all levels of giving and constituent engagement. This position provides strategic leadership in the development of philanthropic goals, strategies, and priorities for SJCH including direct and event-based fund raising. Responsible for the leading, mentoring, management, and staffing of the Children’s development team. Manages a portfolio of donors with an agreed upon assigned fund raising goal. Works closely MUSC Foundation – Institutional Advancement and leadership for MUSC Childrens Health, MUSC Department of Pediatrics, MUSC Research, and others to meet established goals.

Job Description

Position Purpose:

Job Duties

Strategy:  35%

  • Serves as the key strategic lead in conjunction with MUSC Foundation -IA leadership to establish a comprehensive philanthropic vision for MUSC Children’s Health based on business need and best practices that support fund raising for children.
  • Develop fundraising strategies and operational plans that increase philanthropy, engage constituents, and continually grow annual fundraising goals for all activities.
  • Assess, develop and implement long- and short-term fundraising goals and objectives for Childrens Health for all fundraising activities.
  • Works Closely with college and clinical leadership, research, constituent boards, etc. to identify fundraising priorities and create corresponding funding opportunities that promote philanthropy in the communities served.
  • Ensure resources are positioned to achieve the desired results for fundraising activities.
  • Implement philanthropic best practices and benchmark performance against peer and aspirational peer centers.
  • Ensure group goals are in alignment with MUSC Foundation-IA fundraising process to meet overarching goals and objectives.

Team Management:  30%

  • Responsible for the management of all fundraising efforts to include both direct and events based.  band direct fund raising, including hiring, orientation, and training; goal setting; and monitoring individual and team progress toward goals.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to maximize staff productivity which will increase fundraising results.
  • Implement and develop clear performance expectations and goals that are communicated to staff. These will them Inspire, develop, and empower staff to grow as individual performers and future leaders while increasing contributions.
  • Manage all Childrens Advisory boards.

Fundraising:  30%

  • Manage a portfolio with minimum of 50+ major and principal prospects who have a high propensity to give.
  • Create strong relationships with key partners and board members to maximize grateful patient and community referrals.
  • Meet assigned annual activity and outcome goals to include number of visits, number of solicitations, dollars asked, and dollars raised for both self and assigned team members.
  • Meet or exceed an annual individual fundraising goal of $4,000,000-$6,000,000.

Other Duties:  5%

  • Performs other duties as assigned which may include special projects.


Minimum Qualifications

Education
Work requires communication, analytical and organizational skills acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program. Advanced degree preferred.

Experience
Minimum of 8-10 years progressively responsible development experience, including a proven track-record of personal fundraising results, preferably in a higher education or health system setting.

Additional Job Description

Education: Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Work Experience: 9 years progressive work experience and 4 years management experience
