Job Description Summary

Coordinate and perform maintenance and development of the Information Technology systems that support the College of Medicine Department of Pediatrics.

Manage one COM IT staff member in Department of Pediatrics who supports the department and shares some development and system administrator duties on Department of Pediatrics specific homegrown or bespoke systems.  Collaborates with the COM Research IT manager to coordinate effort from COM IT Research team staff who support the Dept of Pediatrics' research divisions. 

Manage the operational support environment for Department of Pediatrics, including significant individual effort, ensuring timely and accurate service is provided by COM IT staff.

Participate in the planning of new and ongoing IT system requirements for research IT in Department of Pediatrics and related systems in use in the College of Medicine and MUSC enterprise.

Documentation of projects, procedures, and systems intended for other members of the COM IT team is an important part of this job. The employee is expected to exercise a high level of independence when dealing with operational tasks and issues, managing priorities to ensure timely support and completion of assigned projects.

Job Description

30%- Consults, recommends, and maintains best practices and locations for data storage, sharing, and collaboration.   Consults on the selection and onboarding of, and, when appropriate, maintains and configures server-based & web-based systems (including SaaS) and system documentation.

Participates in and oversees the management and creation of data collection and reporting instruments in support of Department of Pediatrics data collection and reporting. 

Manages identification and gathering of system and security requirements for new Departmental systems. Administers and maintains Department systems in production.

Performs regular IT security oversight, maintenance, and audits on COM protected data systems. Oversees and project manages systems projects for divisions within the Department of Pediatrics conducted by junior staff. Oversees and project manages systems projects for departments within the Dept of Pediatrics.

15%-Identify, configure, install, and troubleshoot appropriate software for College of Medicine faculty and staff


15%-Specify, install, and configure workstations, printers, personal data devices, and other information devices for Dept of Pediatrics faculty and staff. Participates in setting standards for devices for those departments they or staff reporting to them lead.

 

15%-Maintain and troubleshoot problems with College of Medicine workstations, printers, personal data devices, and other information devices


10%-Supervise 1 staff member (20% developer 80% support ITC) in their job duties and operational responsibilities. Coordinate and ensure timely, accurate, and professional service to departments they or those staff lead, including Peds Research services by the COM Research IT section team.

 

5%-Design, maintain, and support Department of Pediatrics Audio/Visual enabled rooms. Coordinate technical requirements for Dept of Pediatrics needs in frequently used but non-owned/supported AV spaces.  Organize technical support and recording of Dept of Pediatrics Grand Rounds.

 

5%-Create documentation and training on IT-related topics and train faculty and staff as appropriate.
Provide training to lower-level IT staff, faculty, and other University staff on IT-related topics as appropriate.


5%-Held accountable for the COM IT COE inventory control. Ensures that complete and accurate inventory control procedures are followed for Information Technology

Minimum Requirements: A bachelor's degree in communications, business administration, computer science (information technology), mathematics, statistics, management information science or a related field and four years of experience in telecommunications, data processing and/or information technology. Relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
