Job Description Summary

Under general supervision, provides individualized mental health care using evidence-based principles and practices for students attending the Medical University of South. Works as part of a team of mental health care and other professionals to manage effective care and promote mental health and well-being of students. Develops, implements, and manages an educational program for students, staff and faculty to facilitate education around substance misuse problems and/or academic success.

Job Description

Patient Care

30% - Provides empirically supported therapy, patient education, and makes appropriate referrals for medications and health-related conditions. Monitors patients’ progress in therapy.  Prepares status reports and provides updates to stakeholders and senior leadership as necessary. Identifies trends and potential problems; facilitates problem resolution by recommending and implementing a risk mitigation strategy. Consults with the Director and other providers as needed.                                                      

20% - Conducts comprehensive mental health evaluations.  Using uses validated assessment instruments, clinical knowledge, and judgement to diagnose mental health conditions.  Develops and manages individualized and specific treatment plans to address mental health needs. 

                                         

20% - Provides expertise to substance misuse problems and/or academic success for patients. Creates and manages an educational program for students, staff and faculty to facilitate education around substance misuse problems and/or academic success.  Manages the development and execution of communication for students, faculty and staff.                                                                                                                                       

5% - Provides consultation to other MUSC faculty and staff regarding student mental health conditions.    Participates in case consultation and management regarding patient care and team meetings related to clinic activities. Attend grand rounds and other training activities (as authorized) to remain current in behavioral sciences.                                                                                                                                                          

Administrative & Education

10% - Completes documentation of mental health evaluations and therapy sessions in the electronic medical record in keeping with clinic policies and professional standards.

                                                 

10% - Works in conjunction with other staff of Counseling and Psychological Services, Student Health Services, and the MUSC Wellness Center to plan and implement psychoeducational presentations targeting mental health and wellness and health-focused events for students, with a special focus on substance misuse diagnoses and/or student academic success.  Attend grand rounds and other training activities (as authorized) to remain current in behavioral sciences.                                                                                                                                                             

5% - Performs related duties as required. 

Additional Job Description

Minimum Requirements: Requires Master’s degree in Counseling, S.C. licensed (or S.C. License eligible) or Master’s degree in Social Work, S.C. Licensed (or S.C. License eligible in Social Work). A bachelor's degree and relevant project management experience.
