Career path

About LaQuana S.

Key experience
My career started in the military. Now I'm in HR. What a journey!
My biggest career move was entering healthcare HR leadership. I never imagined I would be managing a team of healthcare professionals. I have learned that if you lean into every opportunity afforded you, doors will open and new possibilities present themselves. Have a plan but don't be afraid to pivot.
Current position
I manage a healthcare recruitment team.
My team consists of 7 recruiters and 5 onboarding delegates. We work with organizational leaders to recruit and attract qualified talent. We also assist new care team members transitioning into the organization. My team is well rounded with a diverse set of skills, and we really enjoy connecting with the local community. One of the best parts of our day is helping candidates find the right fit for them within the organization.
Main motivation
I like the variety. It keeps me on my toes.
Working at MUSC affords me the opportunity to work on a variety of projects. I have had the opportunity to really explore all my interests in health care and human resources and find a good fit. MUSC is growing exponentially so the potential to explore is there.
Top advice
Network and smile!
It is really important to reach out others in careers that you hope to be in. Introduce yourself, ask them about what they do and offer to be of assistance. My greatest learning experience was helping a leader complete and present a project. It gave me great exposure on to how to manage a project on a larger scale and anticipate needs for my future projects.
Greatest achievement
Reaching my goal in half the time.
My desire was to be a Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) because I really enjoy strategic planning. My goal was to be a HRBP in 5 years. With the help of my professional support network (my colleagues) I was able to meet that goal in 3 years.

Eligibilty for rehire

Within the last few months, I have applied to several positions in which I have not heard back. Should I be concerned if there is a reason as to why I have not gotten a response? Possibly not eligible for rehire? Please advise.

Eligibility for rehire

I was previously hired as a PRN MRI tech in the Lancaster market. After completion of orientation, the needs of the department changed, and I was not going to be needed often enough to hold the position. Wanted to check my hire status to apply in a different market
